1. ErP certification
The Energy-related Products (ErP) Directive, also known as the Directive 2009/125/EC, was introduced by the European Union (EU) in 2009, aiming to reduce the environmental impact and energy consumption of energy-related products by setting minimum energy efficiency standards and promoting ecodesign practices.
2. Relationship between ErP directive and CE marking
The ErP Directive requires that energy-related products comply with specific energy efficiency requirements before they can be sold in the EU. The CE marking is a mandatory requirement for all energy-related products sold in the EU, including those that comply with the ErP Directive.
3. Relationship between ErP directive and Ecodesign requirement
ErP directive is a part of the Ecodesign directive, which sets out the regulatory framework for the Ecodesign requirements. The ErP directive focuses on energy efficiency, while the Ecodesign requirements take a broader approach, considering the entire life cycle of the product. This includes manufacturing, transportation, use, and disposal.
4. EU new energy label
One of the most visible aspects of the ErP implementation is the energy label that is required on all energy-using products sold in the EU. Below is a sample energy label for a fridge, and it provides consumers with information about the energy efficiency of the product, allowing them to make informed decisions when purchasing products.
- QR code with link to EPREL;
- Energy efficiency class of this product model;
- Energy efficiency classes;
- Energy consumption;
- Indication of additional non-energy parameters (noise emissions, water consumption, capacity, repairability or reliability class, etc.);
Reference to the regulation.
