(1) Electrical safety test

The electrical safety test ensures that the TV set does not pose any electrical hazards to the user. During this test, the TV set is connected to a variety of electrical equipment to simulate different electrical conditions. This test ensures that the TV set is safe to use and does not pose any electrical hazards.

  • Electrical shock test: this test is designed to ensure that the TV set does not have any exposed wires or electrical components that could potentially shock someone who comes into contact with it. The test involves using a specialized instrument to measure the amount of electrical current that flows through the TV set when it is turned on. If the current is higher than the recommended safe limit, then the TV set fails the test and needs to be repaired or replaced.
  • Grounding test: this test ensures that the TV set is properly grounded, which means that any electrical current that flows through it is safely directed to the ground rather than through a person’s body. The test involves using a specialized instrument to measure the resistance between the TV set and the ground. If the resistance is too high, then the TV set fails the test and needs to be repaired or replaced.
  • Insulation resistance test: this test ensures that the TV set’s electrical insulation is working properly, and that there are no electrical leaks that could cause a short circuit or other electrical problem. The test involves applying a high voltage to the TV set and measuring the resistance of the insulation. If the resistance is too low, then the TV set fails the test and needs to be repaired or replaced.

(2) EMC test

This test involves measuring the amount of electromagnetic radiation that the TV set emits when it is turned on. If the amount is too high, then the TV set fails the test and needs to be repaired or replaced.

  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) test: the ESD test is designed to ensure that TV sets can withstand electrostatic discharge, which occurs when two electrically charged objects come into contact. During this test, a high voltage discharge is applied to the TV set’s metal parts, and the results are monitored to ensure that the TV set continues to function properly.
  • Radiated emissions test: the test measures the amount of electromagnetic energy that is emitted by the TV set. During this test, the TV set is placed in a shielded chamber, and a spectrum analyzer is used to measure the emissions. The TV set must meet the required standards for emissions to pass this test.
  • Conducted emissions test: the test measures the amount of electromagnetic energy that is conducted through the TV set’s power cord. The TV set must meet the required standards for conducted emissions to pass this test.
  • Radio frequency immunity test: the test is designed to ensure that TV sets can withstand radio frequency interference. During this test, the TV set is exposed to radio frequency signals, and the results are monitored to ensure that the TV set continues to function properly.
  • Electrostatic discharge immunity test: the test measures the TV set’s ability to withstand electrostatic discharge. During this test, a high voltage discharge is applied to the TV set’s metal parts, and the results are monitored to ensure that the TV set continues to function properly.
  • Electrical fast transient/burst immunity test: the test measures the TV set’s ability to withstand fast transient/bursts of electrical energy. During this test, a burst of electrical energy is applied to the TV set, and the results are monitored to ensure that the TV set continues to function properly.
  • Surge immunity test: the test measures the TV set’s ability to withstand voltage surges. During this test, a high voltage surge is applied to the TV set’s power cord, and the results are monitored to ensure that the TV set continues to function properly.
  • Voltage dips and interruptions immunity test: the test measures the TV set’s ability to withstand voltage dips and interruptions. During this test, the voltage supplied to the TV set is reduced and interrupted, and the results are monitored to ensure that the TV set continues to function properly.
  • Magnetic field immunity test: the test measures the TV set’s ability to withstand magnetic fields. During this test, the TV set is exposed to a magnetic field, and the results are monitored to ensure that the TV set continues to function properly.
  • Harmonic current emissions test: the test measures the amount of harmonic current that is emitted by the TV set. During this test, the TV set is connected to a power source, and the results are monitored to ensure that the TV set meets the required standards for harmonic current emissions.
  • Flicker test: the test measures the TV set’s ability to maintain a stable image while the brightness is varied. During this test, the brightness of the TV set is varied, and the results are monitored to ensure that the TV set continues to function properly.

(3) Energy efficiency test

By checking the Energy Star rating of a TV set, we can ensure that we are using an energy-efficient product that will not only save us money but also help protect the environment.

  • Standby power consumption test: the test measures the amount of power a TV set uses when it is turned off but still plugged in. The Energy Star program has a limit of 0.5 watts for standby power consumption. Any TV set that uses more than this limit will not receive an Energy Star rating.
  • Active power consumption test: the test measures the amount of power a TV set uses when it is turned on and in use. The Energy Star program has a limit for active power consumption based on the size of the TV set. For example, a TV set that is 32 inches or smaller must use less than 50 watts of power when in use to receive an Energy Star rating.

(4) Mechanical tests

  • Drop test: during this test, the TV set is dropped from a certain height to simulate the impact it would experience if it fell from a table or shelf. The drop test ensures that the TV set can withstand accidental falls without getting damaged.
  • Vibration test: the test simulates the impact of transportation on the TV set. During this test, the TV set is placed on a vibrating platform, and the intensity and frequency of the vibrations are varied to simulate different transportation conditions. This test ensures that the TV set can withstand the vibrations that it may experience during shipping and handling.
  • Pressure test: the test simulates the impact of atmospheric pressure on the TV set. During this test, the TV set is placed in a chamber with low pressure levels, and the pressure is gradually increased. This test ensures that the TV set can function properly in high altitude areas without getting damaged.
  • Impact test: the test is designed to simulate the impact of objects hitting the TV set. During this test, different objects are fired at the TV set at high speeds to simulate different impact conditions. This test ensures that the TV set can withstand accidental impacts without getting damaged.

(5) Environmental tests

  • Temperature test: the test is designed to ensure that the TV set can withstand extreme temperatures. During this test, the TV set is placed in a temperature-controlled chamber, and the temperature is gradually raised or lowered to simulate different environments. This test ensures that the TV set can function properly in different temperature conditions.
  • Humidity test: the test simulates the impact of high humidity on the TV set.
