  • Overvoltage test: the test is carried out to determine the set-top box’s ability to withstand voltage spikes and other electrical surges that may occur during use. This test ensures that the set-top box is safe for use and does not pose any electrical hazards.
  • Short-circuit test: the test checks the set-top box’s ability to withstand short circuits that may occur during use. This test ensures that the set-top box does not pose a fire hazard when a short circuit occurs.

(2) EMC test

  • Radiated emissions test: this test is designed to measure the amount of electromagnetic radiation that is emitted by the set-top box. The test is conducted in a shielded room, and the set-top box is placed on a turntable. The test measures the radiation levels at various angles and frequencies.
  • Conducted emissions test: this test is designed to measure the amount of electromagnetic radiation that is conducted through the set-top box’s power cord. The test is conducted in a shielded room, and the set-top box is connected to a power source and various other devices to simulate real-world usage.
  • Electrostatic discharge test: this test is designed to simulate the effects of static electricity on the set-top box. The test involves exposing the set-top box to various levels of static electricity and measuring its response.
  • Radiated immunity test: this test is designed to measure the set-top box’s ability to resist electromagnetic radiation from other devices. The test involves exposing the set-top box to various levels of radiation and measuring its response.
  • Conducted immunity test: this test is designed to measure the set-top box’s ability to resist electromagnetic radiation conducted through its power cord. The test involves exposing the set-top box to various levels of radiation and measuring its response.
  • Power frequency magnetic field immunity test: this test is designed to measure the set-top box’s ability to resist magnetic fields generated by power lines and other sources. The test involves exposing the set-top box to various levels of magnetic fields and measuring its response.
  • Voltage dip and interruption test: this test is designed to measure the set-top box’s ability to withstand voltage dips and interruptions in the power supply. The test involves exposing the set-top box to various levels of voltage dips and interruptions and measuring its response.
  • Harmonics and flicker test: this test is designed to measure the set-top box’s ability to withstand harmonics and flicker in the power supply. The test involves exposing the set-top box to various levels of harmonics and flicker and measuring its response.
  • Surge test: this test is designed to measure the set-top box’s ability to withstand power surges. The test involves exposing the set-top box to various levels of surges and measuring its response.
  • ESD test: this test is designed to measure the set-top box’s ability to withstand electrostatic discharge. The test involves exposing the set-top box to various levels of electrostatic discharge and measuring its response.
  • Magnetic field immunity test: this test is designed to measure the set-top box’s ability to resist magnetic fields generated by other devices. The test involves exposing the set-top box to various levels of magnetic fields and measuring its response.
  • Conducted disturbance test: this test is designed to measure the set-top box’s ability to resist electromagnetic disturbances conducted through its power cord. The test involves exposing the set-top box to various levels of disturbances and measuring its response.

(3) Mechanical tests

  • Drop test: the test is conducted to determine how well the set-top box can withstand sudden impacts. During this test, the set-top box is dropped from a specified height to see if it can survive the impact and continue to function correctly.
  • Vibration test: the tests are carried out to ensure that the set-top box can withstand different vibration levels, such as those experienced during transportation. The set-top box is subjected to different vibration levels, ranging from 5 Hz to 200 Hz, and the device’s response is monitored to ensure that it can withstand the vibrations.
  • Shock test: the test is performed to determine how well the set-top box can handle sudden shocks. The set-top box is subjected to sudden shocks to see if it can continue to function correctly.
  • Remote control test: the test is performed to determine how well the set-top box responds to commands from the remote control. The set-top box is tested to ensure that it responds correctly and promptly to commands.

(4) Environmental tests

  • Temperature tests: the test are essential in ensuring that set-top boxes can withstand different temperatures, depending on the installation environment. For example, if a set-top box is to be installed in a cold environment, it must be able to operate at low temperatures without malfunctioning. Temperature tests are carried out in controlled environments, where the set-top box is exposed to different temperatures, ranging from -10°C to +50°C. The set-top box is then monitored to ensure that it can operate under these conditions.
  • Humidity tests: the test are also critical in determining the suitability of a set-top box for use in different environments. Humidity tests are carried out in controlled environments, where the set-top box is exposed to different humidity levels, ranging from 10% to 90%. The set-top box is then monitored to ensure that it can operate under these conditions without malfunctioning.
  • Dust tests: the test are carried out to ensure that the set-top box can withstand exposure to dust and other particles. The set-top box is exposed to different levels of dust, and the device’s response is monitored to ensure that it can operate under these conditions.
  • Water resistance tests: the test are carried out to ensure that the set-top box can withstand exposure to water, such as during installation or use in humid environments. The set-top box is exposed to different levels of water, and the device’s response is monitored to ensure that it can operate under these conditions.
  • RoHS compliance tests: the test are carried out to ensure that the set-top box does not contain hazardous substances, such as lead, mercury, or cadmium. The set-top box is tested for the presence of these substances, and the device’s response is monitored to ensure that it meets the required RoHS compliance standards.
