1. SASO certification
SASO stands for Saudi Arabian Standards Organization. Many of the SASO standards are based on the safety standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The technicians of the SASO will check the SASO certificate submitted when the goods are imported into the country. Otherwise, the products will be refused entry or samples will be taken to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Industry and Commerce or the laboratory of SASO for testing, and if the tests are unqualified, the products will be refused entry into the country, and the exporting enterprises will bear all the costs.
The SASO certificate is not only for products imported from abroad, but also applies to products manufactured in Saudi Arabia.

1. Pre-shipment Compliance Verification
This method is most suitable for exporters or manufacturers with very few shipments. Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) and Pre-shipment Test (PST) are requested before each shipment. If both are qualified, you will obtain a CoC certificate.
2. Product Registration
This method is suitable for the vast majority of exporters or manufacturers. Although PSI is necessary for each shipment, each batch of goods do not have to perform PST. A Statement for Registration(SfR) will be issued by submitting a Declaration of Conformity, providing test reports that demonstrate compliance with the importing country and relevant international or national standards, and stating that the product meets the basic requirements and national differences of the importing country.
3. Type Approval
This method can save inspection fees or testing fees before each shipment, simplify application process and ensure delivery time, so it is favored by some large companies that ship frequently or on a large scale and pay attention to quality and reputation. Exporters or manufacturers will receive the Statement for Licence (SfL) only if the products fully comply with the mandatory standards of the importing and exporting countries. The certificate is valid for one year and can be renewed by submitting an updated factory inspection report, paying an annual fee and being reviewed by RLC. Products with SfL no longer need to be inspected before each shipment, but reduced to a few sampling inspections per year (usually 2-3 times/year, depending on the product condition).
Below are the general application steps for achieving SASO certificate. Have questions or not sure where to start? Please fill out our short form, our expert will be glad to assist further.
- Fill out the application form and send the technical documentation of the product to us;
- You will be told the certification procedure after our experts evaluating the product;
- Send the test sample to our laboratory and perform the required tests. For some products, such as motor vehicles and accessories, factory inspection is required;
- A SASO certificate will be issued after all the tests have passed. If the test fails, you will then get a detailed test report.
- Each batch of goods must be applied for SASO certificate before delivery. If the goods have been shipped, the consignment will have to be re-exported;
- The test report shall be issued by an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory;
- Tests are carried out in accordance with Saudi Arabian standards first, and then refer to equivalent international standards (e.g. ISO, IEC…);
- The shipped model and the model on the test report should be the same. For electronic and electrical products, the British three-pin plug and socket with them shall also comply with BS 1363;
- Factory internal test report will no longer accepted when applying for SASO-CoC, and a third-party test report issued by a qualified laboratory shall be provided instead;
- For electronic and electrical products exported to Saudi Arabia, if they are category II electrical appliances, the certification mark must be shown on the product label and packaging;
- For less than container load (LCL) category 9 high-risk products, although not supervised loading, they must be sealed with special sealing tape after inspection.
