1. WPC certification
WPC stands for Wireless Planning and Coordination, a government body in India that regulates the use of wireless technology. WPC certification is mandatory for any wireless product to be sold or used in India. This certification ensures that the product meets the technical standards set by the WPC to ensure the safety of users and to avoid interference with other wireless devices. It is important to note that WPC certification is required for both imported and domestically produced products.
2. More about WPC certification
- ETA (Equipment Type of Approval) certification: for wireless products operating on free open frequency bands such as 13.56MHz, 433MHz, 2.4GHz, 5.725-5.825GHz. For ETA certification, products do not need to be sent to India for local testing. India recognizes European standards, products with R&TTE test report can submit an application to WPC, WPC will issue the certificate by reviewing the report.
- License: for wireless products operating on non-free open frequency bands, such as GSM and WCDMA cell phones. Those products are required to meet the India standards.
Devices with radio transmitters. These include (GSM or WCDMA) cell phones, WLAN devices such as Wi-Fi devices, Bluetooth devices, Zigbee devices, WiMAX devices, RFID devices, contactless smartcard readers, and products incorporating other RF transmitters. If the product is only receivers such as GPS products, they do not require WPC certificates.

- Obtain a CE-RED test report (samples are not required);
- Importer apply for an account and password in WPC Bureau;
- Send the RF test report and relevant documentation to WPC;
- WPC certificate will be issued if approved.
There is no period of validity for the WPC certification.
