There are three mandatory inspection schemes which require compliance with product inspection requirements:

• Type Approved Batch Inspection (TABI): for mechanical, chemical, electrical and electronic products (valid for three years);
  
• Registration of Product Certification (RPC): for electrical and electronic products (valid for three years);
  
• Declaration of Conformity (DoC): for components of IT equipment and electronic products (no expiry).
  

Difference between TABI and RPC:

(1) Inspection methods:

If the product has been type-approved, customer inspection will be simplified.

For RPC, market random sampling is adopted instead of customer inspection.

(2) Cost differences:

The application fee for PRC is higher than TABI, and an annual fee is charged, while no annual fee is charged for type approval.

• CI (Commodity Inspection) Mark: electrical products (e.g. home appliances), electronic products (e.g. information equipment and audio-visual equipment for entertainment), mechanical products (e.g. power tools), chemical products (e.g. tires and toys);
• CNS (Chinese National Standard) Mark: industrial products, building materials, electric wires, home appliances, automobile parts, industrial raw materials;
• VPC (Voluntary Product Certification) Mark: digital set-top box, lamp holders, battery chargers, restricted hazardous substances, lithium batteries, sports and fitness equipment…

Type Approval and Registration of Product Certification (RPC) is valid for three years and can extend the period of validity. There is no certificate for Declaration of Conformity (DoC).
